Mongolian Yurt

Available in season for a minimum of 3 nights from only £100 per night. Sleeps up to 10.

Ideal for large families and groups.

We invite you to stay in our stunning Mongolian Yurt which is designed to have minimal impact on the environment. Here you can be as close as possible to the natural world and enjoy comfortable camping with a touch of the exotic in the wilds of the Devon countryside.

Situation

This season our yurt is situated in a meadow surrounded by a small coppice of trees, on the edge of 12 acres of our own ancient woodland, on our beautiful organic farm. From it's position there are breath-taking, uninterrupted views across Devon north to Exmoor and south to Dartmoor. Our woodland borders hundreds of acres of National Trust land on the banks of the Teign River which is just a short walking distance from the yurt. The situation is wild and secluded with only the sound of the birds, steam and waterfall which tumbles down through our private valley.

Size and structure

The yurt is 26 feet in diameter and is made of canvas supported by ash trellis and struts set upon a raised soft wood circular base. It has two large door-ways and a large window set into the canvas.

Inside the yurt

It is simply furnished with traditional Mongolian furniture, rugs and cushions to add to the ethnic feel of this beautiful interior.

6 collapsible camp beds are provided and can be folded back so you can utalise the whole floorspace during the day.

There is a camping kitchen with gas cooking stove, small gas fridge and gas lighting.

There are wooden trestle tables and benches to eat in the yurt or take outside. Chests are provided for storage and there is a cloak stand for coats.

Facilities

Toilets and water are situated in the meadow close by and a shower and another toilet are available in the farm yard.

There is a bonfire circle with log seating which provides for a wonderful outside focus for get-togethers under the stars. You are welcome to gather fire wood from our woodland.

There is a fire wok for use outside the yurt to have a smaller more intimate fire which you can also cook on.

Accomodation / camping for larger groups

If your party is more than 6 people you are welcome to bring additonal camp beds or sleeping mats to accomodate up to a total of 10 people in the yurt at a charge of £8.00 per additional person.

The Yurt can be hired in conjunction with the Woodcutters Cabin - sleeps up to 6 from £80 per night - minimum 3 nights or you can camp alongside the Yurt.

You are welcome to bring your own tents to erect alongside the yurt - £8.00 per adult  £5.00 per child

Access

The Yurt cannot be reached by car. Vehicles must be left in the filed adjacent to the meadow and wheel barrows are provided to help you transport your luggage the 400 yards to the yurt.

Things to do on the farm and near by

The farm is crossed by a net work of ancient foot paths which provide for miles of excellent walking and cycling so you can have a really exciting stay without ever having to use the car.

Swinging on ropes and lazing around in hammocks is always popular. (Ropes and hammocks provided!)

Younger visitors might like to help feed the animals and collect the eggs.

Climb Heltor - our huge granite outcrop and see uninterrupted views towards the Bristol Channel and the other way towards the South Devon Coast - a very invigorating climb which most people can manage - but part of the rock poses a challange for serious rock climbers - so care must be taken as the faces are steep and it's a long way to fall!

Making dens and dams and pond dipping occupies some of our younger guests for hours.

Bird watching and seeing wild life at close quarters. The farm is a wildlife haven, with a huge variety of flora and fauna providing a mozaic of habitats which help to protect several  rare and protected species including bats, door mice, ravens, invertibrates, lizards and most notably the cirl bunting -which is almost extinct.

The farm is peaceful and quiet - away from any traffic or industrial noise - save farm tractors bringing in the harvest. It is perfect for listening to bird song and at Burnicombe we have a resounding dawn chorus which is hard to match anywhere else in Britian.
